Mets Beat Reds 6-4 on a Walk-Off Homer in Extra Innings

Dramatic Finish in Cincinnati Ends Mets' Six-Game Losing Streak

Pete Alonso's Heroics Lift New York to Victory

The New York Mets snapped their six-game losing streak in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, defeating the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 on a walk-off home run by Pete Alonso in the 10th inning.

The game was tied 4-4 when Alonso came to the plate with two outs and a runner on first base. He took a 1-2 curveball from Reds reliever Tony Santillan and sent it deep to left field for his 20th home run of the season.

The Mets' victory was their first since July 22 and snapped a skid that had seen them fall out of first place in the NL East.

Alonso's Big Night

Alonso was the hero for the Mets on Wednesday, but he also played a key role in the team's comeback earlier in the game.

The Reds took a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Mets chipped away at the deficit with a pair of runs in the third inning and another run in the fifth.

Alonso tied the game in the seventh inning with a two-run double. He finished the night 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Scherzer's Solid Outing

Mets starter Max Scherzer turned in a solid outing, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings.

Scherzer struck out seven batters and walked three. He left the game with the Mets trailing 4-3, but the bullpen held the Reds scoreless over the next four innings to give Alonso a chance to win the game.

Bullpen Steps Up

The Mets' bullpen was excellent on Wednesday, allowing just one hit over the final four innings.

Seth Lugo, Trevor May, and Edwin Diaz combined to throw four scoreless innings, striking out five batters and walking none.

Diaz earned the win after striking out the side in the 10th inning.

What's Next?

The Mets will continue their series against the Reds on Thursday night.

Chris Bassitt will start for the Mets, while Hunter Greene will take the mound for the Reds.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
